Inside the Dixie House: Jason Hawes Investigates with GhoSt Augustine
When paranormal investigator Jason Hawes and his team visited the Dixie House in St. Augustine, Florida, they weren't looking for easy answers. Like most experienced investigators, they approached the location with a healthy dose of skepticism and a willingness to test both the evidence and the equipment being used.
What followed was an intriguing night of communication attempts, unexplained responses, and hands-on testing of some of today's most popular ghost hunting tools.
A House with a Reputation
The Dixie House has become well known among paranormal enthusiasts for reports of intelligent activity, spirit communication, and unexplained experiences. Described in the investigation as "perplexing but inviting," the home has developed a reputation as a place where spirits seem comfortable interacting with investigators.
Several spirits were discussed during the investigation, including Jack, a World War II veteran said to have passed away in the Pacific Theater, Charlie, and a motherly spirit known as Colleen. Throughout the night, the team attempted to make contact using a variety of paranormal investigation techniques and equipment.
Testing the Para4ce Portal
One of the first tools Jason Hawes and the team experimented with was a Portal device. He was eager to test equipment that has reportedly produced results at the Dixie House.
The Portal works by enhancing and filtering spirit box audio, reducing static and allowing investigators to focus on potential responses. During the session, several answers appeared to come through the device.
When investigators asked whether anyone was willing to communicate, multiple team members independently heard what sounded like "Yep." Later, when asked how many spirits were present, both investigators believed they heard the response "Two."
Perhaps the most interesting moment came when the name "Rick" appeared to come through multiple times during questioning. While the responses were far from conclusive, they were enough to make the team pause and take notice.
Bringing Out the Investigation Equipment
As the investigation continued, the team shifted their focus to environmental monitoring and interactive equipment.
Several tools were deployed, including:
These are many of the same tools used by investigators around the world when attempting to document paranormal activity.
X5 EMF Meter Activity
The investigators explained how the X5 EMF Meter monitors changes in electromagnetic fields. Before beginning, the team carefully ruled out nearby electrical interference by sweeping the room and checking lamps and other potential sources.
When unusual EMF spikes later occurred near the area associated with Colleen, investigators took notice. While EMF fluctuations alone aren't proof of paranormal activity, unexpected changes in a controlled environment often become points of interest during investigations.
REM Pod Responses
One of the more compelling moments involved a REM Pod placed near Sally, a doll said to have a connection with Colleen.
After hearing what sounded like tapping on the glass cabinet housing the doll, investigators asked Colleen if she could interact with the equipment.
Shortly afterward, the REM Pod began lighting up, climbing from lower levels into the yellow and orange ranges. The timing caught the attention of everyone in the room.
The team repeatedly asked for confirmation, and additional responses appeared to follow.
Could it have been coincidence? Environmental interference? Or was something responding to the investigators' requests? Moments like these are exactly why investigators rely on multiple pieces of equipment to help validate experiences.
Unexplained Tapping Near Sally
One of the most memorable moments of the night wasn't electronic at all.
While sitting in the room with Sally the doll, multiple investigators heard distinct tapping sounds coming from the glass cabinet. The sounds were loud enough to be picked up clearly by microphones and occurred more than once.
When asked directly if Colleen was responsible for the tapping, another tap was heard almost immediately.
The doll itself never appeared to move, much to everyone's relief, but the combination of the tapping and subsequent equipment responses made the session particularly interesting.
Testing the Polterscript
Later in the investigation, the team introduced a Polterscript device.
The Polterscript is designed to generate words through environmental interaction and has become increasingly popular among investigators looking for additional communication methods beyond traditional spirit boxes.
The Dixie House team explained how they often use the Polterscript alongside other tools such as REM Pods and the Dead Bell, looking for multiple forms of validation when a potential response occurs.
While the Polterscript session did not produce definitive answers during this investigation, Jason and the team appreciated the opportunity to experiment with new equipment and evaluate it firsthand.
A Night of Questions, Not Conclusions
One thing that stood out throughout the entire investigation was the team's honesty.
Rather than declaring every sound or response paranormal, Jason repeatedly emphasized the importance of skepticism and evidence. Some moments made the investigators stop and think. Others remained inconclusive.
That's what makes paranormal investigating so fascinating.
Not every investigation ends with definitive answers. Sometimes the most valuable experiences are the questions that remain unanswered.
